About Drea

I am working on an epic fantasy 5 part series that begins with "A Northern Tale," and a YA secondary world fantasy "Rule of Magic," -- the first in a trilogy I'm calling "A Mage's Measure."

Rule of Magic is closer to completion  than A Northern Tale.  I'm working on the 2nd draft of Rule of Magic, and am still in the midst of the 1st draft of A Northern Tale.

I like character-motivated stories, politics that is more cunning than head-bashing, and battle scenes that keep you on the edge of your seat.  I like romance that teaches you about the character, but doesn't define the character, and 'fictional family' and extended family relationships wherein the bonds of love and obligation are wider and more diverse in relation to the main characters (best friends that are like siblings, older individuals who are like a parent, aunt/uncle or grandparent, without sharing blood).

I am fond of creating stateless societies that have complex relationships with states.  I would completely write a novel wherein the crux of the conflict is a cross-cultural mix-up and neither side is "evil," but is trapped by the expectations of their different societies to committing to war.

My strong suits are structure, world building and speed.  I am bad at pacing (I take it too quickly), grammar (I turn off the internal editor when writing) and am inconsistent across my projects with scene and character building in early drafts.

If you are looking at one of my pieces, I'd love a call when you're done.  Just schedule it with me via email first.
